Washington DC & New York City Trip
When: Saturday, April 13th – Wednesday, April 17th (During April Break) Trip Fee: $190 For our biannual big trip, the PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) has decided to head to Washington DC and New York City during the beginning of April vacation week. Our plan is to prepack our vehicles at the Scout Shed on Friday, the 12th, around 5 p.m., and then return to the Shed at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th for the drive to Camp Snyder in Haymarket, Virginia.
Saturday night, Sunday, and part of Monday will be spent touring the nation's capital. We are designing this trip so the Scouts see various attractions they don’t see during the 8th grade Blake Middle School trip to Washington, such as the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, a few of the Smithsonian’s, Ford's Theater, and hopefully a White House tour.
We will drive to the Alpine Scout camp in Alpine, New Jersey, on Monday. We may get some sightseeing in on Monday night, then most of the day on Tuesday, and part of the day on Wednesday. Specific visits will be made to the 9/11 Memorial and Statue of Liberty. The New York City portion of the trip also includes a Red Sox/Yankees game at Yankee stadium on Tuesday night. We will return home early evening on Wednesday, April 17th.
The two camps that we will be staying at are similar to Camp Squanto and run by Boy Scout councils (National Capital Area Council for Camp Snyder and Greater New York Council for Camp Alpine, respectively).
The cost of the trip is $190 per person. We have 22 spots available for this trip.
All are invited to attend this trip, including Scouts new to Troop 89. We recommend that Scouts new to Troop 89 are accompanied by a parent.
